SMART Nutrition Survey

During the project period WHH conducted 2 SMART survey in Altina and Karnoy. The objective of the survey was to: • To estimate the prevalence of acute malnutrition (wasting) among children aged 6–59 months, using Weight-for-Height Z-scores (WHZ) and/or Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC). • To determine the prevalence of chronic malnutrition (stunting) and underweight among children aged 6–59 months. • To estimate retrospective mortality rates (Crude Death Rate and Under-5 Death Rate) over a defined recall period. • To assess Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices, such as early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding, and minimum dietary diversity. • To evaluate food security indicators, including household hunger scale and coping strategies (if included in the survey design). The result of SMART survey showing high rate of malnutrition among children under five age and PLW (Altin GAM result 19.7 % and Karnoy GAM 34%) and identified a huge gap of food and nutrition intervention, WASH and heath activities which needed emergency response. Accordingly, the decision was taken by respected donors from WFP and UNICEF but unfortunately till the date of reporting, the supplies did not reach the area due to the worse security situation in the area.
